U.S. drone strike in Yemen kills 17

On the 13th of December a U.S. drone struck a wedding convoy in Yemen, killing 17 people. Some of the dead were suspected to belong to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), but the majority were not. The vehicles were traveling close to the town of Radda. The strike follows the Dec. 5 AQAP attack against Yemen’s defense ministry, which claimed the lives of 56 people.

Drone strikes in Yemen are carried out by U.S. Special Forces (JSOC) and the CIA. Given the secret nature of both organizations, it is not known “who” carried out the December 13th attack.
