China was a heartbeat away from domestic assassination by drone

The New York Times reports that the Chinese government considered using a drone strike to eliminate a “drug lord” wanted in connection with the murders of 13 Chinese sailors, but opted to “capture” him instead. The alleged plan is evidence of China’s growing technological advancements in unmanned planes. China’s global navigation system, “Beidou”, would have been used to guide the drones to the target–a rival to the U.S.’ GPS.
