CIA defends vaccine program to find bin Laden’s family

The CIA’s attempt to verify the location of bin LAden through the creation of a vaccine program to collect DNA information, was recently defended by a senior US official:

‘The vaccination campaign was part of the hunt for the world’s top terrorist, and nothing else.  If the United States hadn’t shown this kind of creativity, people would be scratching their heads asking why it hadn’t used all tools at its disposal to find bin Laden’.

The doctor overseeing the program in Abbottabad, the town where bin Laden was killed, has since been arrested by Pakistan’s ISI for collusion with the CIA.

The undercover operation, which comes at a time when US-Pakistan relations are frefalling, will stall legitimate health and immunization programs in the country.
